This year has seen a growth in group tour bookings and I have welcomed groups of all ages and nationalities to my home city. In addition to walking tours of the city centre, I have run two coach tour excursions for history groups visiting the city with a tour coach. I designed itineraries to allow the groups to visit a range of attractions within the timeframe they requested. Feedback was positive and this type of tour with less emphasis on walking is particularly suitable for groups with members who prefer less physical activity. A range of locations can easily be visited by coach utilising Sheffield’s ring road system and network of A roads, allowing the canal basin, Manor Lodge, Botanical Gardens and Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet to be easily visited. In addition Sheffield has a number of hotels suitable for coach tour operators as well as during holiday times the excellent University of Sheffield Halls of residence near to Botanical Gardens.
